Acclimation

Acclimation Guide

What should I do when I receive my fish?

Step 1:

Make sure the fish looks alright in the bag, then float the bag in your tank to acclimate for temperature. Leave the bag floating for 30 minutes. Ideally your aquarium lights should be off during the acclimation process to reduce stress.

Step 2:

Transfer the fish into a container/bucket with the bag water. We like to ship with a slightly lower salinity (around 1.022) to help with ammonia build up during transit.

Step 3:

Pour a cup of water from your tank into the container with your new fish. After 10 minutes, pull a cup of the container water out and throw it away. Add another cup of tank water in. Repeat this one more time, then test the salinity of the container. The salinity of the container and your aquarium should be within one thousandth (.001). Once the salinities match, you are ready to add your new fish.

DO NOT pour any of the water from shipping into your tank!
